C:M

The pitch sets employed by the marimba perfectly complement Intriguing electronic sounds in the accompaniment in this exciting work by Thomas McKenney. Technically, the piece is very idiomatic for the soloist, but it is extremely impressive from the listener's standpoint.
Program Notes
C:M was composed for Dr. Julia Gaines, Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The electronic accompaniment was written with Csound, a comprehensive audio processing system. Frequency modulation was used to create all of the sounds for this accompaniment. One of the basic elements of FM is the ration between the carrier signal and the modulator and is known as C:M. Moreover, the title relates the two diverse sound sources of the computer-generated sounds and the marimba. Materials that are pitched are based upon two complementary hexachords.
