Program Notes

Goin’ for the Gold is an adventurer’s march. Although the title might make one think of the California Gold Rush of 1849 or the Alaska Yukon Gold Rush in 1896, the piece really portrays seekers of fortune looking for loot. The piece begins with a determined trek rhythm and the main theme, accompanied by the trek rhythm, begins soon after played by the trumpets. The theme gets passed from instrument to instrument, just as the adventurers move from here and there looking for treasure. The piece is relentless, but happy and upbeat. After all, someone might strike it rich!
