for Flute and Vibraphone

A three movement duet for vibraphone and flute that expresses the subtleties of this instrumental combination, Illuminations is a musical mix of traditional and contemporary techniques with challenging ensemble sections and expressive solo passages.

Program Notes

Several years back I performed in Tokyo, Japan and while there I stayed in Ginza, a vibrant, bustling section of the city. I was struck with the surrounding visual aspects, particularly the cascade of neon lights as the day progressed into the darkness of the evening hours. I composed Illuminations drawing upon on my reflections of that experience. The movements are titled accordingly: Slowly Into Dusk, Evening Bustle, and Neon Cascade. - T.B.
