Jig
Arranger/Composer: Kimberly Archer
Item Code: 10280
Publisher: C. Alan Publications
This work is not a traditional jig, beyond its 6/8 time signature, but does have a consistent upbeat, dance-like feel. It also encourages students to whistle, cheer, clap hands, stomp feet, and otherwise participate in the youthful, celebratory character of the music.
Program Notes
Jig was commissioned by the Craig Middle School Band in Indianapolis, IN. The conductor, Karen Cole, asked that I write a work to exploit her large and active percussion section, along with their brand new marimba. The work is not a traditional jig, beyond its time signature, but does have a consistent upbeat, dance-like feel. It also encourages students to whistle, cheer, clap hands, stomp feet, and otherwise participate in the youthful, celebratory character of the music.
