Program Notes

Dawn breaks across the sky and the shadows of buildings shorten as the sun rises. The first rays of light illuminate a simple fountain surrounded by cobblestone roads and quaint shops which will be open soon. Public places such as village squares offer an opportunity for people to come together, whether to sell or buy wares, catch up with one another, or to celebrate festivities. Places like this help create bonds, thus transforming a village from a collection of individuals into a community.

Morning in the Village Square features a playful melody which depicts the happy energy felt within such a community. Woodwind, brass, and percussion merrily join together to help showcase the spirit of people greeting the new day. The piece culminates in an accelerando, much like a village square busily filling with people going about their different paths, but all having a contribution to their home community. Finally, a joyous energy of coming together is felt by all!
