Drum Set Feature

This selection is a salute to the composer's favorite drum set players, rather than attempt to create a composed drum set part that would function like a multiple percussion piece. There are some obvious references and "licks" as an homage to his favorite players.

Program Notes

When I set out to compose this piece for drum set and percussion ensemble, I knew that I wanted to create a work for drum set with a solo part would be (mostly) specifically notated. However, I wanted it to serve as a salute to my favorite drum set players, rather than attempt to create a composed drum set part that would function more like a multiple percussion piece. Thus, there are some obvious references and "licks" as an homage to my favorite players... and percussionists. -Steve Riley
